Peggy Jo Brockwell Roberts

Peggy Jo Brockwell Roberts, 90, of Chapel Hill passed away on May 28th, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Rocky Point, NC following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Eugene Roberts; her parents, Lonnie and Mabel Brockwell; her son, Thomas Eugene Roberts; her grandsons, Andrew Martin Hartwell and Thomas Eugene Roberts, Jr.; and a brother, Gerald “Pinky” Avery Andrews.

Mrs. Roberts was born March 1st, 1933 in Orange County, NC. Upon graduation from high school, she initially worked at UNC Hospital before transitioning to the University of North Carolina, where she worked as an administrator in the graduate school. She retired after having served the university for 35 years. She was an exemplary Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by many.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her children, Susan Roberts Herring (Dean) and Barry Roberts (Robin Tilley); grandchildren, Tammy Roberts Upchurch (mom, Cheryl Roberts), Tyler Comar (Marissa), Christopher Hartwell, Elizabeth Hartwell, Jason Hartwell, McKenzie Roberts, and Lonnie Roberts; and three great-grandsons, Thomas Upchurch, Jesse Comar, and Silas Comar.

The family will receive visitors at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 12063 US Hwy 15-501 N, Chapel Hill at 11 a.m. on June 2, 2023, with the funeral service to follow at 12 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Westwood Cemetery following the church service. Visitors and friends are invited to visit the home when the services have concluded.
