Nancy Lee Whitlow Walker

October 9, 1947 — October 11, 2023

Nancy Lee Whitlow Walker was born in South Boston, Virginia on October 9th, 1947 to the late Eliga and Ethelda Whitlow. She married her high school sweetheart, Bryant Walker, on February 26th, 1966. They celebrated their 57th anniversery earlier this year. She made her career working for the Department of Surgery at the VA Medical Center in Durham, and later at Duke University Medical Center. She later trained to be an EMT First Responder and volunteered with the Caldwell Fire Department and was honored to serve her community in this capacity. She also started the Caldwell Fire Department Auxiliary to fundraise for the fire department to purchase equipment, uniforms, etc.

She loved spending time on Kerr Lake/Buggs Island and being on the boat fishing with Bryant. She was proud to be a southern Virginian and had no trouble telling anyone that fact. She was a farmer's wife and spent many days working in the fields or at the barn alongside Bryant. She loved cooking for her familiy and friends. She loved going to yard sales, auctions and thrift stores with friends and family. She also enjoyed working for 40 years with her brother-in-law, Phillip Walker, clerking for him with his auction business.

She was a member of Little River Presbyterian Church. Nancy was the oldest of 7 children. In addition to her parents, she was also pre-deceased by her sister, Carol Whitlow George.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bryant Walker, her daughters Bette Walker Clack and her husband Neal, Allyson Kaye Jacobs and her husband Marty, her granddaughter Jamie Lee Jeffries Walker and her partner Heather Parrish, her siblings and their families, Kenny Whitlow and his wife Cindy, Bill Whitlow and his wife Brenda, Pat Gates and her husband Thomas, Tommy Whitlow and his wife Ann, Bette Bradshaw, her brother-in-law Phillip Walker and his wife Diane and many nieces and nephews, her special country children and their familiy, Manley Palmer Jr. and his wife Kathy and their children Ashley Slaughterbeck, Trey Palmer, Gray Palmer and Grace Palmer and their families, and lil punkin', Francie. She is also survived by Buddy, her 4 legged child.

There will be a visitation Sunday at 2pm at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough with a memorial service to follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Chordoma Foundation for reasearch: chordomafoundation.org (PO Box 2127, Durham, NC 27702)

A special thanks to Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Elizabeth Fricklas, PA, Alyssa Cobb, ANP at Duke Radiation Oncology and Duke Home Health Care and Hospice and youngest sister, Bette, and sister-in-law Diane for all their help caring for Nancy.
