Myra Louise Zollinger

1938 — February 19, 2025

Myra Louise Zollinger of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, dear friend and colleague, passed away on February 19, 2025. Born in1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert M. Zollinger and Louise K. Zollinger. Myra grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where she graduated from The Columbus School for Girls in 1956. She went on to study Zoology at Wellesley College, earning her degree in 1960. Myra began her professional career as an elementary school teacher and taught until the birth of her first child. While raising her young children, Myra was still very much involved volunteering at numerous organizations and maintaining her membership in the local Junior League, PEO and neighborhood garden club. She was always eager to contribute and be involved. Myra re-entered the workforce and began a career in real estate in 1978 that lasted 47 years. She became a distinguished figure in the industry, expanding her experience into leadership roles and various offices including past President of North Carolina Realtors and President of the National Association of Realtors Certified Residential Specialists. Myra was a member of the Presidents Circle, and was inducted into the RPAC Hall of Fame. Additionally, she held the position of Region 4 Vice President and was President of the NC Real Estate Educational Foundation.

Myra was a woman of numerous hobbies and interests. She delighted in reading and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies and cowboy cookies, which she generously shared with many. She had a passion for beading, water aerobics and bowling, activities that brought her joy and relaxation. Myra was a season ticket holder of the North Carolina Women’s Basketball team, an avid Phillies Baseball fan and supported all things Ohio State. Her family was amused by her affinity for action movies, Bugs Bunny and hand-held, electronic games. Known for her vibrant personality, Myra's infectious laugh and great sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her. She had a unique way of breaking the ice and engaging others, often using her light-up rings and extending forks as conversation starters. Family was very important to Myra. She was affectionately known as "Z" by her cherished grandchildren and would frequently make trips to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Golden, Colorado to spend meaningful time with them.

Myra is survived by her brother, Dr. Robert M. Zollinger Jr., and his wife, Ruth Zollinger, and nephews, Rob, Ray, and George. She leaves behind her children by her ex-husband, Roger Waud (deceased): daughter, Heather Dorf, and her husband, Howard Dorf, their three children, Caroline, Lauren, and David; and son, Neil Waud, and his wife, Kim Zielinski, and their three children, Keanan, Logan, and Barrett.

Myra was laid to rest on March 8th in a family plot in Millersport, Ohio where she had many fond memories as a child. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the spring in Chapel Hill, NC. Details to follow.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation in Myra’s name to the University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC where she was an active member for over 50 years.

Her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Myra Louise Zollinger, “Z”, will be deeply missed, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
