ORANGE COUNTY Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough 919-732-2121 HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Melba Ethel Hawkins Walker, 90, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012. She was a native of Orange County and a graduate of Aycock High School. She retired from Orange County School Food Service after 23 years. She was a member of New Sharon United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. Surviving are three sons: Tommy Compton (Lela), Cedar Grove, Kemp Walker (Beverly), Graham, and Donny Walker (Mary Ann), Hillsborough, grandchildren: Todd Compton (Jenny), Brandon Walker, Brian Walker, Jennifer Walker, and Holden Walker, great grandchildren: Logan Compton, Teagan Compton, Noah Compton, and Halo Walker, two step grandchildren: Nathan Downs (Ashley) and Kelly Downs, two brothers: John Hawkins (Margaret), Jamestowne, and Carroll Hawkins (Rose), Cedar Grove, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mamie Hawkins, and two husbands, Henry Compton and Bill Walker, five sisters: Mary Wilkerson, Evelyn Michael, Doris Cates, Mary Frances Pope, and Nancy Overcash. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday, August 11, in New Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the New Sharon UMC Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Friday, August 10th in Walker's Funeral Home and following the funeral in the church fellowship hall.
