Mary Scanlon

Mrs. Mary Jane Zahn Scanlon, wife of Glenwood C. Scanlon, died Friday January 5 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Mrs. Scanlon was born and raised in Carthage, New York. She received her BS in Psychology from St Lawrence University, She was employed for many years as a high school English teacher in Ohio and New York school systems. On July 2, she celebrated her 62nd wedding anniversary with her husband. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women, and was on the Board of Directors for the Kingston (NY) Area Library. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Scanlon is survived by her daughters, Diane Guthrie, and her husband, Brian, of Centreville, VA, and Renee Plott, and her husband, Mark, of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Jasmine, Lucas and Sophie Plott, and Cameron and Andrew Guthrie; sisters, Judith Douglas of Battle Creek, MI, and Marilyn Burns, of Caldwell, KS. No services are planned locally. After cremation, Mrs. Scanlon's ashes will be inurned in Arlington National Cemetery.
