Margaret Crowe Hatcher, 82, died Feb. 2, 2017, in Pittsboro, North Carolina, after a brief illness. She was born in Talladega, Alabama, on Feb. 16, 1934, to the Rev. William Crowe and Catherine Graeber Crowe. She grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina, and earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from Duke University. She was married to Thurston R. Hatcher Jr., an architect, and spent more than 40 years of her life in Miami, Florida, where she was an interior designer and co-owner of the Hanging Basket in South Miami. She moved to Fearrington Village, North Carolina, in 2006. Survivors include daughter Almeda S. Hatcher and son Thurston R. Hatcher III, both of Chicago; a sister, Catherine Ragland of Pittsboro; Stanley R. Mandel of Pittsboro; five nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Allen, and her stepmother, Almeda Crowe Ellis. A memorial service will be held at Galloway Ridge at Fearrington on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Farm Sanctuary. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is assisting the Hatcher family.
