Linda Stinnett Harris

September 15, 1947 — November 13, 2020

Linda Harris, 73, died Friday 13 Nov 2020 after several months of deteriorating health. Left to grieve her passing are her sister Sandra Stinnett of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, her daughters Kathrene Harris of DeWitt, Arkansas, and Michelle Gagnon (Doug) of Monroe, Louisiana, and three grandchildren---Makayla and Daniel Gagnon and Joshua Harris. Linda is also survived by cousins, Gloria Tamura of Novato California and cousin, Margaret Ames of Houston Texas. She was predeceased by her father Lee Eldridge Stinnett (1952), her mother Sudie Pitchford Stinnett (2005), her husband Larry Harris (1975) and her son Larry Harris II (2007). Linda was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on 15 September 1947. She grew up in Bossier City, Louisiana, where she attended Bossier High School, graduating in 1966. In 1968, she married Larry Harris and they lived in Alvin Texas until his death in 1975. She and her children then moved back to her hometown to be near her mother and extended family. Later she moved to Arkansas for a few years. In 1996, her sister Sandra brought her to Chapel Hill to live with her and their mother whom Sandra had brought there the previous year. There she joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill NC and was a vital participant in her Sunday School class and in the Women on Mission church group. Her church friends embraced her and loved her dearly. Her favorite activity was to send cards for every occasion to her Mount Carmel family and enclose one of her poems. For the last 24 years of her life, Linda lived with her sister and their pets in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, full of happiness to have her family united again. This was a time of joy and celebration, trips and parties with all her new friends. She was especially devoted to her dog Millie and loved to walk her in our Governor’s Village neighborhood. She was proud of her part-time job at Carolina Meadows for 10 years as a dietary assistant. It was also a time of struggle with many illnesses that weakened her. Her sister was honored to take care of her and grateful for their long time together. The last months of her life were particularly difficult. Her family is grateful for the loving care provided by Duke Hospice. In addition, we thank her personal caregivers Alisha Ndiaye, Tanneshia Holloway, and Rachel Forbes for being by her side with devoted support for her and her sister. There will be a visitation on Saturday 14 November 2020 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City Louisiana will assist with her burial at Munnerlyn Chapel Cemetery near Ida Louisiana later in the next week. Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill is assisting the family.
