Leita Crabtree

Leita Crabtree passed away peacefully at home with family on November 4, 2017 just shy of her 100th birthday. She lived the last 9 years with son Barry Crabtree, wife Laurie, grand-twins Wyatt and Kit along with Herbie and Mochi. Leita was born in Atlanta GA in 1918, raised in Norlina and her adult life in Carroboro. Before retirement she worked at NC Memorial Hospital and every restaurant or coffee shop on Franklin Street. During her 99+ years she saw every state in the union gaining numerous pen-pals and friends along the way and outliving them all. She was preceded in death in 2008 by her husband of 55 years Hubert Crabtree, parents John and Munus Currie, sister Edna, brothers John, Tom, and Bobby, and many relatives and friends. She is also survived by sisters Mae Gums and Ethel Robinson, sister-in-law Bobbie Currie as well as her loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Thanks to Visiting Angels for their care over the past nine years and UNC Hospice for giving her end of life care with dignity. There will be a graveside memorial on Wednesday November 8 at 1pm at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on Hwy 86. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Meals on Wheels of Orange County. .
