Kurt Wagoner

May 3, 1968 — August 13, 2019

Kurt Moore Wagoner passed away in his home on Tuesday August 13th, 2019 at the age of 51. He was born May 3rd, 1968 in Durham County as the oldest child to Jesse William (Billy) Wagoner and the late Judy Thompson Wagoner of Hillsborough, NC. After graduating from Orange High School, Kurt attended N.C. State University earning a degree in Animal Science. At the time of his passing, Kurt was employed by City Electric Supply but farming and livestock was always his passion. Kurt was happiest when he was in the cab of his John Deere tractor, diet Mt Dew in hand, getting up round bales in the hay fields with his dad Billy to feed their cows. He loved Sunday lunches with his family and especially keeping us laughing with his many stories and jokes. He loved Christmas mornings with thick cut country ham and Maple View chocolate milk. He was known worldwide for his training, breeding, showing, and judging of Palomino Quarterhorses. He was a true gentleman and cowboy. He is survived by his father, Jesse William Wagoner, sister, Julene Wagoner Rhew (Brian), brother, Cleve William Wagoner (Karlee), three nieces, Kirsten Wagoner, Kara Wagoner, and Natalee Wagoner, and his “Darlin” of 7 and a half years Glenora Ray as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his mother, Kurt was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill Thompson and Pansy Thompson; paternal grandparents, Jesse Wagoner and Mattie Wagoner; Aunt, Willie Jean Kirk; Uncles, Morris, Adron, and Norman Thompson, and cousin Mitchell Thompson. The family will be receiving friends on Friday August 16th 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3216 Orange Grove Rd. Hillsborough, NC. A funeral service will be held Saturday August 17th, 2019 at 2:00pm at Cross Roads Baptist Church. All are welcome to join a mule and wagon procession led by Kurt’s dear friend Sweet Willie immediately following the service for a brief graveside prayer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the family to help defray Kurt’s medical expenses. Walker’s Funeral Home of Hillsborough is entrusted to the care of the Wagoner family.
