Joyce Ann Vick

Joyce Ann Royal Vick, age 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 19, 2021 after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Joyce was born May 26, 1939 in Sampson County, North Carolina to the late Elton and Ethel Boykin Royal. She graduated from Watts School of Nursing and started her nursing career in the Emergency Room Department of Watts Hospital in Durham, worked for Dr. Cheek, surgeon in Durham for 20 years and she transitioned to BCBS of NC as a fraud investigator for 22 years where she retired. She spent 58 years of her life in Durham and spent the last two years in Mebane. She loved spending time with family, friends, also loved the beach and beach music. She had the wonderful opportunity to travel most of the world with her husband and friends. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert Ronald Vick; one son, Greg Davis (Sharon) of Henderson; two daughters, Ron-Marie Fuller and husband Mike of Efland; Rory-Ann Vick Wagoner and husband Gary of Efland; one sister, Jean Royal Van Roekel and husband Richard of Lake Lure, four grandchildren, Brittney Leathers, Morgan Emory and husband Daniel, Ean Wagoner, Amber Pippin and husband Tim. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Riggsbee Vick Emory and nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for Joyce will be led by Manley Palmer in Mebane on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2 pm with the family receiving friends directly following the service at Walkers Funeral Home.
