Joyce Gail Lloyd

Joyce Gail Lloyd 73, of Chapel Hill, NC unexpectedly passed away peacefully on February 14, 2021 in her home. Joyce was born July 14, 1947 to Myron Glenn and Christine Cheek Lloyd, whom preceded her in death. Joyce is survived by her best friends of more than 50 years, Kay Thomas and Matthew Fearrington, brothers Paul (Carolyn) Lloyd, Mark (Lynette) Lloyd, and Todd (Jennifer) Lloyd, sister Elaine Lloyd (James) Ray. Nephews and nieces whom she all loved dearly: Joel, Sherry, Jordan & Cameron Lloyd Krista (Lloyd) Sills, Brent & Bryant Williams, and Greysen Sills Bradley Lloyd & Kelen Lloyd April (Ray), Nick, Raegan, Kaiden Remaly Anna (Ray), Harry, Bristol, and Kane Arndt Lauren (Lloyd), Tyler, Sage Hoover Lacey (Lloyd), Michael, and Nolan Andrews Luke Lloyd Scott Lloyd Colton Lloyd Joyce loved, celebrated, and honored her family. She didn’t miss a birthday or anniversary, and truly enjoyed all the family gatherings. Especially, traditional New Year’s Day luncheon at her home featuring her special fried cornbread. Together with Kay, they created a tradition and made sure each young'un had their own Christmas stocking. For more than 10 years, Joyce and Kay have loved their dog Deuce. Whether visiting family, running errands, or vacationing at Emerald Isle, Deuce was with them. He already misses Joyce. Joyce was an excellent softball player mastering several positions on the field. Some of the teams she played with were Liberty Market out of Durham, Antioch Baptist Church, and Cedar Grove where they won the State Championship twice. Around age 15, Joyce was named softball All Southeast MVP. Eventually, she would move from player to coach, coaching her nieces in softball. Joyce graduated from Orange High School and worked for UNC Hospitals in the Data Processing Center for more than 30 years. She was an avid supporter of the UNC Tar Heels. We invite all family and friends to attend a Graveside Service on Friday, February 19th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. Due to current restrictions, face coverings, and social distancing are required for the service. We ask that anyone experiencing cold/flu-like symptoms please stay home. A brief gathering to console family will be available in the church Fellowship Hall. Respectfully, masks are required. Flat shoes are suggested at graveside due to climate conditions.
