John Shanklin

Mr. John Robert Shanklin, Sr., 89, died Monday, September 17, 2018. He was born in Alamance County. After graduating from Mebane High School, he joined the U.S. Navy for four years. He worked for Cambridge Arboretum in Boston, MA, where he maintained the landscape. Later he drove trucks, worked as a painter, and for the last ten years he worked at Walker's Funeral Home. He cared much for his family and country. Surviving are his daughters: Linda S. Polak (Gerald), Jeanne S. Robbins (Jeff), one sister, Alease Mace, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents: Bessie and Samuel A. Shanklin, Sr., his wife, Ann, three sons: Robert Daniel Shanklin, John R. Shanklin, Jr., and Paul Augustus Shanklin, one sister, Susie, and two brothers: Sam Shanklin, Jr., and Jack Shanklin. Graveside services were held 2 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in Oakwood Cemetery, Mebane.
