Joan Carroll

Joan Riggsbee Carroll, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2018, at NC Memorial Hospital. Ms. Carroll was born on February 11, 1935, in Carrboro, North Carolina to the late Walter Bunnie Riggsbee and Maude Pendergraph Riggsbee. She was formerly married to William “Billy” Carroll. Joan graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1953 and worked for many years as a business manager in the Department of Psychiatry at NC Memorial Hospital and later at the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Joan had a love for the beach, camping, tending to her flower garden, trying her luck at casinos, spending time with her family, and she adored her precious dog, Princess. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Lagrande Riggsbee Cheek. She is survived by two sons, Ricky Carroll and wife Terri, David Carroll and wife Jane, one daughter, Gina Carroll, one sister, Ann Riggsbee Craddock, one brother, Claiborne Riggsbee, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, May, 29, 2018, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Walker’s Funeral Home. To honor Joan’s request, a funeral service will not be held. In memory of Joan, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which was one of Joan’s favorite charities, at www.stjude.org.
