Jerry Wayne Bailey, born on January 13, 1943, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2025. Jerry dedicated over 45 years of his life as the owner of the Shell Service Station, a staple in his community where he was known not only for his business acumen but also for his warm personality and unwavering commitment to serving others.
A proud graduate of Hillsborough High School, Jerry furthered his education by obtaining a college degree in accounting. His professional journey was complemented by his distinguished military service, having served in Vietnam, from which he returned with an honorable discharge.
Jerry embraced life with a passion that was evident to all who knew him. He found joy in the outdoors, relishing activities such as fishing, visiting the lake, dancing, skating, watching the weather, mowing the lawn, and water skiing. However, his greatest love was reserved for his family and friends, as he continuously put their needs above his own. Jerry lived life to the fullest and endeavored to make every moment count, always surrounded by those he cherished.
He leaves behind a loving wife, Vickie Bailey, and children Brandy Bailey (Wesley Moore) and Pam Hawkins (Randy). He is also survived by his brothers Bobby Bailey, Ronnie Bailey, and Ed Bailey, as well as his sisters Pat Pearson and Brenda Kay Summey. Jerry was a beloved figure to many, including grandchildren Keiley Thornton (Bailey), Bailey Hawkins, and Rylan Moore, and great-grandchildren Chaseton Thornton, Lincoln Hawkins, and many special nieces and nephews all of whom will carry forward his spirit of kindness and generosity. Jerry was predeceased by his son, Glenn Bailey, and Sister Jackie Mace whose memory will forever be a part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Visitation to honor Jerry will be held on April 18, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough, located at 204 N. Churton St., Hillsborough, NC 27278. A graveside service will take place the following day, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, located at 7215 Walnut Grove Church Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.
Family and friends are warmly welcomed to attend the services in casual attire, as Jerry would have wanted everyone to feel comfortable and at ease during this time of remembrance.
Though he has departed from this world, Jerry Wayne Bailey's spirit and love will undoubtedly continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
