Jane Branscome

Mrs. Jane Mangum Branscome, 72, died peacefully at her home on January 18, 2018. Mrs. Branscome was born October 23, 1945 in Chapel Hill, NC to Eulice Mangum and Magdalene Blackwood. She was a loving wife and mother, an especially doting "Nana" not just to her grandchildren, but to many children in the Mt. Carmel community. A graduate of Chapel Hill High School in 1964, and a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, she graciously served her community as a lead member of the Hospitality Committee. She retired from a 25+ year career at Performance, Inc., and truly enjoyed her part-time job at Carolina Meadows for many years. Her family and friends will remember her beautiful smile, her kind spirit, and the ability to put on the most exceptional baby showers with ease. She will be forever missed for she was greatly loved. Mrs. Branscome is survived by her three children, Kristy B. Montana (Scott), Robert Branscome, Jr. (Kim), and Tracy B. Lane; three siblings, Mary Ann Gallagher of Seattle, WA, Larry Mangum (Donna), of Cullman, AL, and Lynn Merritt (Ricky), of Chapel Hill, NC; nine grandchildren, Erin Lindquist (Cole), Ashley Frye (Scott), Jesse Montana, Nicholas Montana, Carson Montana, Cydney Branscome, Kaylie Lane, Stephen Lane, Nathaniel Lane; five great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Jerry" Branscome. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 11:00am in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial followed in Mt. Carmel church cemetery. The family will received visitors Sunday afternoon, from 4:00 – 6:00pm in Walker's Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill.
