James Franklin "Pete" Smith Efland- James Franklin "Pete" Smith of Efland, died February 7, 2014 at Alamance Regional Hospital following a short illness. Pete was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He loved people, animals, farming, hunting, fishing and golf. His caring and generosity were known to many. Taking care of people was his specialty. He is survived by a sister, Mary Smith Porterfield; brother-in-law Max Lai and two nephews, James Lai and Danny Lai; and one niece, Mary Ann Herron. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roshell Smith and Annie Hamlet Smith; three sisters, Mae Lai, Ann Williams and Hallie Hall; three brothers, Billy Smith, John Smith and Coy Smith. A celebration of life service will be held at Walker Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. before the service. Interment will follow for family and close friends at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive family, friends and neighbors at his residence located at 5004 Lebanon Road or at 5106 Lebanon Road, Efland.
