James Luxton

James Louis Luxton passed away Wednesday morning, March 19, 2014 at his home in Durham, NC. He was the son of late John Virgil and Fannie "Bud" Smith Luxton and was born February 4, 1923 in Chatham County and he grew up in Lee County. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Clark Luxton, his children: son, James "Jim" Virgil Luxton of Chapel Hill, son, Donald Keith and his wife MaryBeth Luxton of Charlotte and daughter, Marianne Luxton and her husband Michael Pickett of Maui, HI. His grandchildren are Lindsay Denise Luxton, Gregory B. Luxton of Boone and David M. Pickett of Maui, Hawaii. His great-grandchild is Kylie Luxton of Boone. Louis is also survived by his sisters Gracie McLeod and Helen Williams of Sanford. He was proceeded in death by brothers and sisters Maggie Ellis, Coy Luxton, Fred Luxton, Sr, Hayden Luxton, Huey Luxton, Jesse Luxton, J. V. Luxton, Charles Luxton, Lillian Moore, Corina Wicker, Viola Kelly and Barbara Potter. Louis lived with his wife Joyce at the Emerald Pond Retirement community on Pickett Road. He will be remembered for his calmness, patience, generosity and his passion for Tarheel sports. He was a long-term member of Ephesus Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and as leader of the RA Boys program. Louis enjoyed all kinds of sports and over his life loved to hunt, golf, fish and he played baseball and basketball. Louis served in the US Navy during WWII and worked making ice cream and in the blow mold division of Long Meadow Dairy in Chapel Hill and Durham. He retired after 42 years. Louis leaves the world a better place for having been in it. He will be missed. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21 from 6-8 pm at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. The funeral service will be held Sat. March 22 at 2:00 pm at Ephesus Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. Burial will occur immediately after the service. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Luxton family.
