Orange County Hillsborough - Henry Thomas Pope Senior, 84, of 415 North Cameron Street, Hillsborough, passed away on Saturday April 5, 2014, at home with his family at his bedside. A lifetime resident of Orange County, he was born in Durham on January 18, 1930, the son of Sallie Lee and Charlie Bunn Pope, Sr. He spent the first half of his life as a tobacco farmer in Cedar Grove, the second half as a realtor in Hillsborough. Both professions satisfied his love of the land, which he enjoyed all the days of his life. He attended Eno Presbyterian Church for 52 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hillsborough for 32 years. Tom did all that was ever asked of him. He loved his family, his God, and his country. He served his country with pride as a Korean War veteran and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was predeceased by his sister Anne Pope McDade and brothers Charlie Bunn Pope, Jr. and John Howard Pope. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sue Walters Pope; son, Henry Thomas Pope, Jr. and his wife Rhonda; daughter, Candi Pope Griffin and her husband Bill; daughter, Melanie Pope Liner and her husband Chip; brother, Donald Pope and his wife Faye; brother-in-law Dwight Walters and his wife Libby; grandchildren, Lauren Pope Triplett and her husband David, Henry Thomas Pope III, Kate Griffin and Sydney Liner; great-grandchildren, Mayci and Clayton Triplett; step-grandchildren, Rob Liner and his wife Dana, Kim Connolly and her husband Keith; step-great-grandchildren, Blake and Barrett Liner, and Kayla and Kyle Connolly. Pallbearers: Henry Thomas Pope, III, David Triplett, Doug Pope, David Pope, Mark Pope, Johnny Pope, Dave Walters and Rob Liner. Honorary Pallbearers: Jim Walters, Jack Walters, Scott McDade, Clifton Robinson, Warren Hawkins, Lucius Cheshire and Carlton McKee. The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 8 at 12:30pm, at First Baptist Church of Hillsborough, service to follow at 2:00pm.
