Gloria Faye Hicks

February 25, 1935 — May 12, 2024

Gloria Faye (Collins) Hicks, 89, of Hillsborough passed peacefully from this life, into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Sunday May 12th, 2024. Faye was born in Alamance County on February 25th, 1935 to the late Blanche Collins Benfield and Guy Collins. After graduating in 1953 from Hillsborough High School she worked for the former Watts Hospital and Duke Hospital. Faye spent 28 years as a teacher's assistant in the Orange County School system, touching the lives of many children. Faye never met a stranger; she would strike up a conversation with anyone and could light up a room with her beautiful smile and loving personality. Her home was always open, and no one ever left hungry. Her specialties were desserts, especially her homemade caramel cake. Faye loved life and lived it to the fullest, her faith and commitment to the church were evident in the way she lived her life. Faye was preceded in death by her mother Blanche, stepfather Malone Hall, 3 brothers, Fred, Bill, Ken, son in law Milton (Pete) Rhew.


Faye is survived by her husband Bill Hicks of 66 years. Her children Lou Ann Rhew, Mike & Meg Hicks, Peggy & Tony Moon. 6 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren, 2 sisters Carolyn and Peggy along with countless nieces and nephews.


A celebration of Faye’s life will be held on June 22 at 1pm at Fairview Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC where she was a charter member.
