George Sykes

Hillsborough, NC - George "Cowboy" Sykes, Sr., 66, of Hillsborough, NC, passed away on the morning of June 4, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. He graduated from Orange High School in 1969 and went on to attend North Carolina State University, as well as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Candy Pope Sykes; daughter Christina Georgette Sykes (Elliott Ross Schelske); two sons Christopher R. Pope and George Allen Sykes, Jr.; mother Juanita Sykes; sister Peggy Rudd (Ronnie); two brothers, Ronnie Sykes and Edward Sykes (Donna); sisters in law Rena Zarate (Checo) and Cindy Pearson (Jeff) and a sister in law Cathy Riley; brother in law Maris Riley. He is preceded in death by his father, George W. Sykes; a brother Lynn Sykes; a brother in law Bobby Riley, Jr. Cowboy loved the Tarheels, enjoyed golf, western television and movies, watching History and Discovery programs, listening to Leon Russell, and spending lots of time with family and friends. Visitation will be held at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough, 204 N. Churton St.; Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 6pm until 8pm. The service will be held at Walker's Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 2pm, followed by burial at Rosewood Cemetery in Hillsborough.
