July 11, 1939 - February 8, 2025

Dr. G. Robert Redinbo, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away from complications of lung cancer on February 8, 2025 at the age of 85.

Bob was a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Davis for more than 30 years before retiring in 2018. Originally from Lafayette, Indiana, he received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University, where he taught after serving as an officer in the Army Signal Corps, stationed at Vint Hill Farms, Virginia. He held subsequent faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin- Madison and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, before moving to UC Davis in 1984. Bob enjoyed teaching multiple generations of engineers and his research was focused on computer engineering. He published more than 75 journal and conference papers and was active in several professional engineering societies. A lifelong runner, he also enjoyed biking around Davis, spending time with his extended family and was an amateur radio operator.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Clare Redinbo. He is survived by his three children Greg Redinbo of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, Matt Redinbo of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Cate Kerpsack of Pismo Beach, California, as well as seven grandchildren and multiple friends and colleagues.
