Frederick Hawkins

January 28, 1934 — January 25, 2025

Frederick "Fred" Adams Hawkins, 90, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Brookdale Senior Living, Durham. He was born in Cedar Grove, the son of the late William Walter Hawkins and the late Lottie Rountree Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by his brother Willard Hawkins, sisters Lottie Lynch, Marie Lucas, Edith Davis, Rachel Cole and Sarah Norris; half-brothers, Frank Hawkins, Alvin Hawkins and half-sister Nannie Odom.


Mr. Hawkins served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina; he retired from the U.S. Army Research Office at the Research Triangle Park and at its satellite office, The U.S. Army Research and Standardization Group (UK) in London, England for over five years, and was a member of St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Durham.


Mr. Hawkins is survived by his children, Keith Hawkins, Anthony "Tony" Hawkins (Jennifer), and Elizabeth Hawkins; and his former wife Valerie Jean Keith Hawkins from London, England; brothers, Warren Hawkins, Kenneth Hawkins (Carolyn), Wade Hawkins (Shelby); and sister, Peggy Terry.


Visitation will be held Friday, January 31, 2025 from 12:00PM until 1:00PM at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, 7215 Walnut Grove Church Road, Hurdle Mills, North Carolina 27541.


A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM Friday, January 31, 2025 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, with Reverend Miriam Saxon officiating.


Interment to follow at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hurdle Mills, North Carolina.
