Eugenia Baird

Eugenia Speed Baird passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of July 11, 2014 at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, where she had been a resident for the last 3 ½ years. Mrs. Baird was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose life was guided by her deep Christian faith and filled with her devotion to and love for her family. Mrs. Baird was born in Durham, NC on September 5, 1918 to Henry and Lillian Speed. She was the youngest of 6 children and a graduate of Durham High School. She was married for 64 years to David Baird, Sr. who predeceased her in 2011. She was also predeceased by her youngest son, Paul in 1982. Mrs. Baird is survived by her daughter, Karen Baird Daniel, of Hillsborough and her son, David Baird, Jr., of Burgaw, NC. Also surviving Mrs. Baird are 11 grand children and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 7:00pm to 8:00pm Monday, July 14 at Walkers Funeral Home in Hillsborough. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 15th at 2:00pm. Memorial remembrances may be made to the church's cemetery fund.
