Ethel Stansbury

Mrs. Ethel Holloman Stansbury, born on January 4, 1929, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2019, at the age of 90, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Mema, as everyone called her, was the owner, along with her late husband, "Hammie", of The Village Diner for over 40 years. She was "Ms. Village Diner of Hillsborough". It was her life long dream. She ran a tight ship! Not only was she a strong, independent woman but a hard worker. Ethel enjoyed the simplest pleasures in life. Her best times were spent at her beach place at Emerald Isle with her family. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She loved to read, facebook, play cards, visit with friends and family, and watch the birds from her kitchen window and said she is coming back as a red bird. She had a heart of gold and a giving soul. She loved and cared for every one above herself. She will be missed dearly. She is survived by her son, Ronald Kelly (Diane); her daughter, Teresa Pelfrey (JP); grandchildren, Maitland Kelly, Rachel Morris (Craig), Jessica Wilkerson (Royce), Lindsay Stump (Jackson); great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Edmonds, Jase Wilkerson, and Conor Morris; sisters, Aileen Barnes, Dorothy Foster, Faye Hill (Ralplh), Ruth Crocker; five nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond "Hammie" Stansbury; her mother, Eliza Holloman; her father, James Turner Holloman; and two brothers, James Holloman and Thomas Holloman. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, December 10th, afternoon from 6:00-8:00 pm at Walker's Funeral Home 204 N. Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 11th at 2:00 pm in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery, 115 East Corbin Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278. The Stansbury family is under the care of Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough. .
