Carrboro Ernest Lloyd Riggsbee, age 97, was born on January 28, 1916. He passed away after a brief illness on December 24 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born, raised, and spent his entire life living in Carrboro, except for four years serving in the Army Air Force during World War II in the Pacific. Upon his return, he was co-owner of Andrews-Riggsbee Grocery Store until he began his career in commercial and residential real estate. In 1947 he married Mabel Corriher of China Grove, NC, and they were together for 66 years until his passing. He was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Grace Riggsbee, brother Bruce Riggsbee, and sister Mary Lois Morgan. He is survived by his wife Mabel and four children, Ned (Jan) Riggsbee, Becky Riggsbee, Tina (Buzz) Floyd, and Linda (Scott) Jens, and six grandchildren, Jacob Riggsbee; Hannah, Glenn, and Trent Floyd; and Erik and Noah Jens. Ernest is also survived by his beloved niece Beverly Dickinson of Chapel Hill. Ernest was constant in his generosity toward his family and extended that generosity to many others in need. He was an honorable man and loyal to his many friends. Even in his advanced years, Ernest maintained a quick wit and sense of fun. He will be greatly missed and his family treasures their memories of him. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Pat Guiterras for his exceptional medical care given over the decades.
