Hillsborough - Mr. Ernest McKinley Cabe, Sr., 83, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014. He was a native of Bryson City, NC. He attended Swain County schools. He began his work at age 14 with the local dairy. He served in the armed forces stationed in Korea. After serving in the Army, he began his career working with Pike electric and finished with Piedmont Electric after 31 years. He helped build the first rural electric line from Chapel Hill to Hillsborough. Surviving are three sons: Dewey Altman Cabe, NY, Ernest McKinley Cabe, Jr. (Barbara), Hillsborough, and Jeffrey Garland Cabe (Jennifer), Hillsborough; six grandchildren: Ernest, Margaret, Joshua Hudson, Joshua Legget, Hannah, and Jack and his half brother, Billy Cabe.. He was predeceased by his parents Minnie and Oscar Cabe, his wife, Joyce, two sisters, Gladys and Geneva and one daughter, Jennie. The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Sunday in Walker's Funeral Home.
