Ellen Bottomley

Ellen Mayfield Bottomley died peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 11, 2017 at the age of 75 in Chapel Hill,NC. Ellen was born on November 14, 1941in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to the late Charles and Geraldine Mayfield. She attended Depaw University, Illinois State and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University in 1963. Ellen moved to Augusta, GA in 1963 to work as a speech therapist at the Augusta Speech and Hearing Center. It was there she met her husband William E. Bottomley and raised her 3 children. In 1989, Ellen became a real estate broker and worked with Lowcountry Real Estate and Sotheby's in Beaufort, SC, until her retirement in 2011. Ellen is survived by her husband, Bill, her 2 sons Chip and Chris, and her daughter Kate. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren and her 2 brothers David and John Mayfield. Services were held at The Episcopal Church of the Advocate in Chapel Hill where Ellen was an active member. In lieu of flowers, it was Ellen's wish that donations be made to the Pee Wee Homes Collaborative, a program she was involved in at the Church of the Advocate. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Bottomley family.
