Elizabeth Peck

May 17, 1913 — July 5, 2012

Obituary for Elizabeth M. Peck Elizabeth MacDougal (Mac) Peck, age 99, died July 5, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert H. Peck, who died February 4, 2012; a son James, who died in 1963 and a daughter, Jeanne, who died in 2009. She is survived by her eldest son, Richard (Barbara) of Florence, AL. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Cathy Powell (Kip) of Roswell, GA; Nancy Bowling (Jeff) of Russellville, AL; and Jody McClurg (Charles) of Dalton,GA.; and four great grandchildren. "Mac" was a graduate of Butler University and a Registered Dietitian. Until she became ill, her kitchen was her favorite domain. Few activities satisfied her more than feeding and caring for her family and friends both in Chapel Hill and their "cottage" on Lake Gaston. Bob and "Mac" moved to Chapel Hill in 1961 when Bob was named Town Manager of the Town of Chapel Hill. "Mac's" membership in the PEO Sisterhood in Chapel Hill was a vital part of her life for many years as she actively participated in a mission of serving and encouraging other women. After Bob's retirement, they traveled extensively with friends in the US, Europe and the British Isles. "Mac's" Scottish heritage, (her parents moved to the US from St. Andrews, Scotland in 1904) led to extensive travel in Britain and Scotland. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Condolences may be offered to Richard, 157 Breckenridge Court, Florence, AL. 35630. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen NC Triangle Affiliate, 133 Fayetteville St., Suite 300, Raleigh, NC 27601 or the charity of your choice.
