Dot Gunnells

Dorothy "Dot" Davis Gunnells, 88, of Chapel Hill passed away on April 25, 2017 in Burlington, NC. Dot was born on October 11, 1928, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Floyd and Katherine Davis. She was married to Jack H. Gunnells. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in business from Memphis State University. Known to many as Coach Gunnells, she served as the Women's Golf Coach at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill for 18 years, from 1974-1993. Dot was an active member of Journey Church at Southpoint. She is survived by her son, John; her grandson Jack and his wife Lesa of Clinton, and her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Brody; and a sister, Patsy Davis of Fort Mill, SC. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her brother Robert Davis. The Gunnells family will receive family and friends for visitation on Sunday, April 30th from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm at Journey Church at Southpoint, 6804 Farrington Road in Chapel Hill. Funeral Services will follow at 4:00 pm in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to UNC Women's Golf.
