Dennis Robert Vogel

Dennis Vogel, loving husband, father, and friend to many, died in his home on Friday, July 2nd, after a long illness. He was born March 13, 1947 in Cincinnati, OH to Earl and Doris Vogel. He graduated from North College Hill High School in 1965, and received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Miami University of Ohio in 1969. He started work with Bell Labs after graduation, and attended the University of Michigan for a Masters Degree, awarded in 1970. He retired from Avaya in 2001 and enjoyed traveling, hiking, and trying new restaurants. Dennis and his wife Susan moved to Hillsborough, NC in 2009 and spent a lot of time exploring their new home. Dennis' family will miss his cooking, photography, and groan-worthy dad jokes. He is survived by his wife Susan Sullivan, two children Kristen and Philip (Nora) Vogel, his siblings Dale Vogel and Linda Alexa, excellent dog Buster, and many other family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his name to Duke Hospice (giving.dukehealth.org), Doctors Without Borders (doctorswithoutborders.org), or the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina (foodbankcenc.org). Services will be private. Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough is assisting the Vogel famly.
