Clara Mae Ferguson

Chapel Hill – Mrs. Clara Mae Ferguson, 95, wife of the late Ben P. Ferguson, died Thursday, November 19, 2020 at her home. Mrs. Ferguson was born May 7, 1925 in Orange County to the late Alma Vella Riggsbee and Hugh Pendergraph. She was educated in the Orange County schools. Mrs. Ferguson retired as a Supervisor after 30 years of service with University Laundry, UNC-Chapel Hill. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, serving the church in any capacity she could, and on Sundays, if she wasn't attending church services, she could be found in the Nursery. She is survived by her children, Ben P. Ferguson, Jr.; Arnold Ferguson and his wife, Beverly; and Faye Lloyd, and her husband, Wayne; all of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Wanda & Jerry Lloyd and Travis & Caitlin Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Katie and Samantha Tripp and Ella, Lucas, and Bennett Ferguson; and great-great granddaughter, Kynlee. In addition to her husband and parents, Clara was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Ferguson; her granddaughters, Sharon Tripp and Wendy Lloyd; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Ferguson. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 9326 Bethel Hickory Grove Church Road, Chapel Hill. Officiating will be Rev. Gene Jester. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials in Clara’s name to Bethel Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, or to Liberty Hospice, 1005 Carthage Street, Sanford, NC 27330. The family is under the care of Walker’s Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.
