Mr. Charlie Maynard Wilkerson, Sr., 92, of Hillsborough passed away early Saturday, November 12, 2011 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary Wilkerson; brothers, Lacy and Clyde Wilkerson; and a grandson, Josh Williams. Mr. Wilkerson was a World War II veteran, with the 1st Infantry Division, The Big Red One. While serving overseas in the European Theater, he was engaged in many battles, including The Battle of The Bulge under General Patton's leadership. He retired from White's Furniture Company after more than 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Gravette Wilkerson; and three children, Charlie Wilkerson, Jr. and wife, Shawn, Linda W. Wagner, and husband, Daryl, Lu Ann W. Grainger, and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Beth C. Wilkerson, Karen W. Durham, Valerie W. Reyna, Jeffrey K. Wagner, Julie W. Sharpe, Jennifer W. Lloyd, Laurie W. Burgess, Erin S. Williams; great grandchildren, Ginnie Grady, Kendall Grady, Dillon Durham, Austin Durham, Kayla Durham, Luke Wagner, Caleb Wagner, Cody Sharpe, Colton Lloyd, Austin Hutchins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cross Roads Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 on Tuesday at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough.
