Beverly Kappeler Inchalik

October 22, 1927 — March 17, 2024

Beverly Inchalik, 96, passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 17, 2024 at the Carolina Meadows retirement community in Chapel Hill.

Beverly was the daughter of Estelle (Voorhis) and Edward Kappeler. She was salutatorian of the Hackensack, NJ, High School class of 1945.

Beverly graduated from Trenton State Teachers College in 1949 with a degree in Business Education. In 1947, she met her future husband, Elroy Inchalik, at a YMCA dance in Passaic, NJ. They were married for 62 years, from September 2, 1950 until Roy’s death in 2012.

Beverly and Roy welcomed their first child, Michael, in Pennsylvania, as Roy completed his doctoral degree. They subsequently moved to New Jersey, where they had four more children, residing in their Cranford home for 44 years. Beverly was an energetic proponent of quality public education, taking leadership positions in the PTA and other education advocacy groups for over 20 years until their children were grown.

In retirement, Beverly and Roy took numerous college courses and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. The couple moved from Cranford to Carolina Meadows in January, 2003, where they were active participants in community life.

After Roy’s death in 2012, Beverly redirected her considerable energies to advancing conservative political causes, upon which she fervently believed the future of the society her descendants would inherit depended. She never wilted in the face of opposing viewpoints, and while she might too easily be caught up in the heat of battle, she would later acknowledge the good intentions of her opponents, who “didn’t know any better,” and never lost her sense of humor.

Beverly is survived by her four sons, Michael, Kenneth (Barbara Ho), Jeffrey, and Thomas (Caprice), and daughter, Patricia (Michael Miller). She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren, Ben, Tina, Libby (Paul Schwab), Doug Miller, Greg Miller, Lane, Jackson, Sam, Andrew, Timothy, Price, James, and Lillian; and great-grandmother of 3 treasured great-grandchildren, Jacob Schwab, Caleb Schwab, and Lylah.

A Requiem Mass will be offered at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Chapel Hill at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 21, with private interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
