Barbara Mull

Chapel Hill Barbara Ann Mull (formerly Carraher), 70, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away, surrounded by loving family, on September 1, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Marion, NC on August 4, 1945, to the late Presnell and Elsie Mull, both formerly of Lexington, NC. Barbara graduated from Lexington High School before continuing to Catawba College and the University of North Carolina for a Masters of Social Work in 1969. Barbara was the first dedicated nephrology social worker in North Carolina and spent the majority of her career working for the Alaska Kidney Center in Anchorage, Alaska. After retiring from social work in 2003, she began a successful second career as a real estate agent with Churton Street Realty in Hillsborough, NC. She was also a regular fixture at Bowman Bay and Deception Pass parks in the state of Washington, where she volunteered for the last four summers. She was a loving, supportive mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed by all of her family. She is survived by her sons, David Carraher and Michael Sharp, her daughter-in-law Melinda Sharp, and five grandchildren: Benjamin, Jacob, Kyle, Rory and Chloe Sharp; her surviving sisters, Rebecca Fisseha and Kathleen Hewitt; and her brothers-in-law, Tekola Fisseha, Calvin Hewitt and Terry Ryan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dennis Carraher and her sister, Deborah Mull. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 5th at 2pm at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fresenius Medical Care of Anchorage, AK or the Deception Pass Park Foundation.
