Alice Martindale

Mrs. Alice Cheek Martindale, 90, passed on to be with those who had predeceased her, early Friday morning, January 15th at Carolina Meadows. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bruce B.Martindale, her daughter Ann Smith (Robert) and Bruce Lee Martindale. She was grandmother to Chadwick Dunson (Christy) and Tammy D. Little (Ross) and great grandmother to Kaitlyn and McKenzie Little. She was the 7th of 12 children. Surviving are her sisters Lois Hoenig (Joe) and Barbara Eberhart (Jim), and a brother Ben Cheek (Ellen). She had numerous nieces and nephews who loved Aunt Alice. Her sister-in-law Peggy M. Williams was like a sister to her. Family members who predeceased her were her parents T. Melvin (Mel) and Pearl Duke Cheek; brothers William (Helen), Melvin (Susie), Dennis (Ann) Cheek, and sisters Inez Sparrow (Waldo), Ruby Blaylock (Fred), Edna Duncan (Lewis), Lucille Bauthues (Ralph), and Blanche Cheek. Alice graduated from Bells High School and spent her life in Chapel Hill. Her profession was a beautician for over 30 years. She was an active life-long member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The celebration of her life service is to be held at 2:00pm Sunday, January 17th with visitation at 1:00pm in the sanctuary. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. After Burial the family will return to Mt. Carmel for fellowship. Memorial gifts to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
