Gracie Shephard Brown

Gracie Shephard Brown, 82, of Carrboro, NC passed away on Sunday, June 6th at her home surrounded by family. Gracie was born July 29, 1938 in Wilkes County, NC to the late Walter Columus and Rosie Phillips Shephard. She operated a daycare for more than 50 years. One of her greatest joys was being surrounded by children as she could often be found amongst all the youngin’s at any event. Gracie was a one-of-a-kind woman filled with faith and love for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gracie spent her days tending to her award-winning garden, traveling, playing on a co-ed softball team, and contributing at her church. She is survived by her husband, Roy D. Brown of Carrboro, her 3 children, Ray Eller, and his wife Cheryl, of Chapel Hill, Rose Barnes, and her husband Troy, of Chapel Hill, Chris Brown, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Daniel Barnes, and his wife, Karen, Crystal Lara, and her husband, Fernando, Michael Barnes, and his wife, Lily; seven great grandchildren; sisters Mary Love of Millers Creek and Maggie Shores of Millers Creek. Gracie was predeceased in death by one sister and six brothers. The family wishes to thank Cheryl Eller, Kay Gattis, and UNC Hospice for their loving care during this time in Gracie’s life. A visitation will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Thursday, June 10th, 2021 from 11:30am-12:30pm. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Thursday June 10th, 2021 at 1:00pm with Pastor Barret Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro. Walkers Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UNC Hospice, P.O.Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312. Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill is assisting the family.
