Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Susan Davis Packard died peacefully at Hospice Home in Burlington, NC on October 14, 2017 at the age of 91. She is survived by sons Michael (Cherie) Packard, Billy (Gladys) Packard, daughter Pat (Fred) Conner, Grandchildren Elizabeth (Todd) Conner Jones, Laura May Conner (Neil Doss), Emily Williams (Allison Kendall), Catherine (Matt) Helm, Billy and Chris Packard and great-grandchildren Delainey, Tucker, Ruby Jane, Shepard and Archer Jones and Cassidy and Harvey Helm. She is also survived by brothers Bob Davis, Leon (Sally) Davis and sisters Louise Brinson, Phyllis Hahn, Sister-in-Law Sue Davis, and many nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by her husband William Packard (2010) and daughter Linda Packard (2015), brothers Jimmy Davis and Don Davis and sister Millie West. She was born in Richlands, NC on August 1, 1926 to farmers Guy and Mary Davis, the third oldest of eight children. In 1946, she was working at a cafe in Norfolk when a handsome sailor from Chicago came in for coffee. It was love at first sight and they were married within weeks. Over the years, they raised four children while living in Chicago and Detroit before returning to North Carolina in 1970. Margie loved being a wife and homemaker and was devoted to her family, serving them wholeheartedly. She was an excellent vegetable and flower gardener, cook, baker, seamstress, and wonderful listener. She believed that cleanliness was truly next to Godliness and our home was immaculate. It still makes us smile to remember her famous Christmas Pineapple Cake was always too tall to fit inside the cake plate. After the children were grown, she worked in a woman's clothing store achieving many sales awards over the years. But, her focus was always family. Spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren was warm sunshine to her spirit. When Bill died in 2010 after nearly 64 years of marriage, Margie became progressively ill with Alzheimer's and required residential Memory Care at Alamance House of Burlington where she resided for the past four years. Margie loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC. As she requested, we will honor her memory privately, and she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Bill in the church cemetery. We miss her dearly, but are comforted by the blessed promise of Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain. All of that has gone forever."
