Obituary of Reuben Perry Dillard

DILLARD (Orange County Section) HILLSBOROUGH Reuben Perry Dillard, 80, of Hillsborough NC passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, Friday, December 9, 2011, following a period of declining health. Born in Caldwell County the 13th of August 1931. He was the son of the late Mitchell and Emma Dillard. A US Army veteran, Reuben served overseas during the Korean War in the 1st Cavalry from 1952 to 1954. After active duty he devoted 6 years to the Army Reserves. Before retiring in 1996 he devoted 34 years to Rea Construction as a heavy equipment mechanic. He enjoyed working with his hands, helping his friends and family, and taking his grandkids for tractor rides. He was preceded in death by his son Demoes Richard (Rick) Dillard. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Brenda C. Dillard and his five other children, Reuben Mitchell (Mitch) Dillard, Lisa Kay Dillard, Steven Kent Dillard, Jason Brent Dillard and Kevin Brian Dillard. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Walker's Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsborough. Officiating will be the Rev. Stuart Milton. Burial will follow in the Rosewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Walker's Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to thank the friends that came by and helped while Reuben was in the hospital and once he came home. He will be extremely missed and fondly remembered.
