Obituary of Alfred Leon Carr

Alfred Leon Carr, age 90, passed away on February 16, 2018 after an extended period of declining health.

He was the son of the late Brodie and Maye Carr. Mr. Carr was the owner/manager of Carr’s Supermarket for many years. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was an active member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Hillsborough. He volunteered at the Orange Congregations in Mission Thrift Shop and Meals on Wheels for many years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Suggs Carr, daughter LeRae Cooney (Thomas), grandson Matthew Cooney, son Stuart Carr (Dennis Skrzekut), stepdaughter Louise Suggs (Ted To), step grandsons Henry and Franklin To, stepson Joseph Suggs and step grandson Jordan Molinari-Suggs.

He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis and by brothers Edsel and Julian Carr. 

A funeral service was held at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 20 at the First Baptist Church of Hillsborough. Mr. Carr was buried in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Orange Congregations in Mission Food Pantry or to the First Baptist Church.
